“Man of Tomorrow,” the follow-up to this summer’s “Superman,” will hit theaters in 2027.   Superman: Man of Tomorrow takes its name from a Superman comic book series released in the late ’90s, with an animated film by that same name released in 2020.

James Gunn revealed the news on social media that read: “Man of Tomorrow. In theaters July 9, 2027.” which was posted alongside a comic book drawing of Superman leaning against Lex Luthor in his green warsuit — which is powered by Superman’s weakness, kryptonite.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav personally announced in August of this year that Gunn would return to write and direct the follow-up film. ‘Superman’ earned more than $611 million at the worldwide box office this summer, making it the highest-grossing superhero film of the year.

“Man of Tomorrow” will also follow the 2026 releases of “Supergirl” (directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Mogueira and starring Milly Alcock) and the body horror film “Clayface” (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini and starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie). The schedule it notable as it means that “Man of Tomorrow” will debut before Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” which is currently slated to premiere on Oct. 1, 2027.
